Madrid Otra Mirada (MOM), the cultural program organized by the Department of Culture, Tourism and Sports to promote heritage sites in the city, will kick off its eleventh edition tomorrow. This edition will allow visitors to discover 166 unique spaces, including 16 locations that will be open without prior registration. Although most of the program for MOM 2023 required prior registration and is already fully booked, those who were unable to secure a spot or are looking for last-minute plans can also access these visits and activities.

Noteworthy proposals include the Faro de Moncloa and cultural spaces such as the Municipal Eugenio Trías Library, Casa de Vacas, Serrería Belga, and the Royal Academy of Fine Arts of San Fernando. Also included are religious buildings not only from the Catholic tradition, such as the Basilica of San Francisco El Grande or the Church of San Jerónimo el Real, but also from other Christian denominations such as the Russian Orthodox Church or the German Evangelical Church. The Municipal Eugenio Trías Library-Casa de Fieras will offer a radio play called «Madrid, cuando es mejor que nadie mire» on October 19th at 7:00 PM, performed by the Audiodrama Colectivo. On October 20th at 7:00 PM, there will be a conference on Ricardo Velázquez Bosco, Universal Expositions, and El Retiro Park, presented by librarian and expert Rafael Serrano. At Casa do Brasil, an exhibition of visual arts by various Brazilian artists organized by Inn Gallery de Brasil will be available from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM during the four days of MOM. Casa do Brasil is an institution of the Brazilian government aimed at accommodating university and postgraduate students studying in Spain, as well as promoting Brazilian culture and the Portuguese language.

The British cemetery will offer guided tours without prior registration (first come, first served basis) during the four days of MOM at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM. This cemetery, created in the 19th century to house the remains of British citizens, is the final resting place of illustrious and curious figures that reflect the history of Madrid.

The Casa de Vacas Cultural Center has organized three activities. During the four days of MOM, an exhibition called «Siete,» by Murcian painter Pedro Cano, will be on display from 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. On October 20th at 7:00 PM, there will be a concert by the Rayband group, featuring a wide repertoire of Spanish music from the 70s, 80s, 90s, and 2000s, as well as rock in English. Finally, on October 22nd at 12:00 PM, the Big Band Celeste 21 will perform pieces from movies such as «The Godfather» and «The Sound of Music,» as well as works by Duke Ellington and Stevie Wonder.

The Clara del Rey Cultural Center-ABC Museum will host the «DIBUJAMADRID. Con otra mirada» workshop. The activity will begin on Friday at 7:00 PM with a talk by architecture and urbanism specialist Concepción Lopezosa, who will present the cultural buildings that will be drawn the following day. On Saturday at 10:00 AM, there will be a tour of the Conde Duque neighborhood to draw Madrid, led by artist scenographer and drawing professor Javier Chavarría.

At the Francisco Alcántara School of Art, guided tours of its ceramics facilities will be offered, providing an opportunity to explore this unique building where students learn the art and crafts of ceramics. The visits will take place on October 19th at 11:00 AM and 12:00 PM.

In the Letras neighborhood, visitors can enjoy a guided tour of the Serrería Belga, a building constructed in various phases since the 1920s by architect Manuel Álvarez Naya. This was one of the first Madrid buildings to use exposed reinforced concrete. The Serrería Belga, which has received awards from the Official College of Architects of Madrid, is currently one of the cultural landmarks of Madrid. These tours are available on October 21st and 22nd at 12:00 PM and 1:00 PM.

Municipal Company Madrid Destino has organized self-guided visits to the Faro de Moncloa on October 19th, at 10:00 AM, 10:30 AM, or 11:00 AM. This is an excellent opportunity to access the observatory at a height of 92 meters, providing one of the best viewpoints to appreciate the city and its surroundings.

The María Cristina Masaveu Peterson Foundation offers guided tours of its building. This foundation continues the collecting and patronage tradition of the Masaveu family and has its own art collection, with a focus on contemporary art. The guided tours are scheduled for October 20th at 6:00 PM; October 21st at 10:30 AM, 12:00 PM, and 6:00 PM; and October 22nd at 10:30 AM and 1:00 PM.

The emblematic San Jerónimo el Real temple will open its doors on October 20th at 7:30 PM to offer a concert by its renowned choir. The concert will be divided into two parts, with the first featuring religious music and the second featuring secular music.

The German Evangelical Church offers guided tours on October 20th and 21st at 6:00 PM. In addition to showcasing the building, the tours will explain its history, the symbolism within the church, and provide a brief history of Protestantism in Spain. The Friedenskirche (Church of Peace) was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century, imitating Visigothic and Byzantine styles. A concert of instrumental music by Luis Mazorra Incera, director, and the Friedenscamerata musical ensemble is also planned for October 21st at 7:30 PM.

During the visit to the Cathedral of Santa María Magdalena, also known as the Russian Orthodox Cathedral, on October 21st at 5:00 PM, visitors can learn about the history of the Russian Orthodox community in Madrid and Spain, the symbolism of the temple, and the differences and similarities with Western Christianity. The Cathedral of Santa María Magdalena was built in 2013 to accommodate the Russian Orthodox community from Russia, Ukraine, and other countries. It serves as the episcopal seat for the parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in Spain…
