The FIFA World Cup is one of the most sought after trophies in the world and a relic of world sporting history. Once belonging to a former World Cup winner, a special silver tray given for winning the tournament in 1982, has recently been donated to the FIFA museum in Zurich, Switzerland.

The gorgeous tray, which has been designed and crafted using the finest silver, was presented to Italy after they victorious won the World Cup 1982. After being treasured for 37 years, it was recently donated to the prestigious FIFA museum by Angelo Palombo, the Italian international player and captain of the 1982 Italian World Cup winning team.

The tray is decorated with the iconic silhouette of a footballer, topped with the World Cup logo and the words ‘Mundial 82’, while the words ‘La piu bella’ (the most beautiful) are inscribed on the bottom right corner – the allusion to Maradona’s famous goal against England. The tray carries many stories and memories of the 82 tournament and conveys a powerful narrative of hope, success, and glory.

FIFA museum’s director, Philippe Marguery, expressed his immense gratitude to Palombo for the donation and said it will be a reminder of the brilliance of Italian players and their glorious victory for a long time. He also mentioned that this special tray is an addition to their selection of historical auction items and will be showcased to the world upon the official reopening of the museum.

The box was handed over to the museum in an exclusive ceremony held at the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, where FIFA president spoke highly of Palombo’s magnanimous gesture. It also included speeches from current Italian coaches and players, who were in awe of Palombo’s accomplishment and honored him with a symbolic moment to remember.

Palombo, who was overwhelmed with emotion, said that his team’s victory was a dream come true and it was a right time to share a part of the story with the world. He further mentioned that the gesture was a token of gratitude to all the Italians, who gave them unconditional love and supported them throughout their journey.

The donation of this glittering tray perfectly captures the spirit of sportsmanship and showcases a unique part of footballing history, which will be cherished for many years to come.
