On Wednesday, 10 October 2018, the city of Oviedo, Spain, was lucky enough to witness a grand event – the official photo taken in the iconic Tartiere Stadium.
The official photo was taken for the inauguration of the Oviedo-Gijon railway line. Present at the event were the leaders of the Principality of Asturias, the Ministry of Development of the Government of Spain, local authorities present in the region, and other personalities.
Before taking the photo, Prince Felipe addressed the guests with the following words: “The modernization of the line that will provide passenger and goods transportation by rail between Gijón and Oviedo is the climax of an infrastructure project of great importance for the Asturian people. A project that strengthens Asturias and its connection with the rest of the country.”
Captured in the historical photo was the modern infrastructure and the glorious church of Santa Maria del Naranco, which is one of the main symbols of the history and culture of Oviedo.
The modern train line will link Gijon and Oviedo with the AVE high-speed trains allowing people to travel in comfort from one city to the other in only 35 minutes. It is an excellent way to make transport easier and faster while being environmental friendly, as the trains run on electricity.
The people of Oviedo are looking forward to the official inauguration of the railway line, which is scheduled to take place on 11 December 2018. Residents of the city and the region are sure that the opening of this railway line will bring new opportunities and prosperity to the region. This symbolic photo of the official event was a great showcase of the new face of Asturias.
