This past weekend, Fundoma – a Colombian foundation dedicated to eradicating child hunger – held a traditional chocolate-drinking event in order to raise funds. The event, known as a “chocolatada”, is part of a longstanding tradition in Colombia and dates back to the 17th century.

The event was held at the Saturday morning market in Usme, located in the region of Bogota, and consisted of the public gathering and sharing a pot of hot chocolate. Participants were encouraged to make a donation towards the cause in order to show their support. The funds raised will be used to provide meals for children in need.

The chocolatada, which was first introduced by settlers of European descent, has grown to become a deep-rooted part of Colombian culture. It is a symbol of community and sharing, and has helped to provide opportunities for people from all backgrounds and income levels to come together.

At the event, people of all ages shared a drink and a conversation, or simply shared the warmth of the beverage. The people of Usme have been particularly supportive of the cause and have shown great enthusiasm for the event. This year’s chocolatada has been a great success, with over 500 people in attendance, and will go a long way towards helping Fundoma’s mission.

The event serves as a reminder of the importance of coming together as a community and supporting one another in times of need. It is a testament to the power of tradition and how it can be used to make a difference in the lives of those who need it most. The organizers of the event are already looking forward to the next chocolatada and encouraging people to come out and show their support.
