The town of Carabanchel, located in the Community of Madrid, has distributed the awards for their nativity scene competition. Known for its nativity scene museum, Carabanchel is home to a culture that values the creation of looks depicting the birth of Jesus Christ.

The competition entailed submitting handcrafted nativity scenes that were judged by a jury of five in categories such as “Faithfulness to tradition”, “Originality/Innovation”, and “Aesthetic and Harmony”. There were 576 participants in total this year, with the jury paying special attention to detail and creativity.

The first prize went to Alina González with her interpretation of the classic San Marcos Square nativity scene. González was praised for her exquisite details, such as the small houses, a fountain, and walkways through a representation of Madrid.

The second prize was delivered to Salvador Lamata for his rendition of a classic mandarin nativity scene, which highlighted vibrant colors, as well as a deep attention given to the animals in the scene.

The third prize was also awarded to a very fortunate individual, José Manuel Andújar, who was celebrated for his impressive representation of a Baroque-style nativity scene. This scene included a number of carvings and representations of classic Baroque architecture.

Apart from these three, the jury also awarded a special commendation to Ana Cantalupo for her brilliant depiction of Bethlehem’s Manger, which was filled with a shimmering star.

Carabanchel’s competition is a testament to the commitment and dedication the locals have to keeping the nativity scene culture alive and in bringing together creative citizens from the region.
