La Junta Municipal de Tetuán retoma una larga tradición deportiva: el Torneo de Navidad de Baloncesto, coincidiendo con las fechas navideñas. Desde el 19 de diciembre, en horario de tarde, el Centro Deportivo Municipal Antonio Díaz Miguel ha acogido este torneo cuya final se disputará este miércoles 21 a las 19:00 horas.
Organizado por la Junta en colaboración con el Club Deportivo Zentro Basket, en el torneo participan otros equipos de categoría junior masculino como el Movistar Estudiantes o el Canoe C.N., además del equipo anfitrión, cuarto clasificado de Madrid la pasada temporada.
Actividades como esta son fruto de varios convenios que el Ayuntamiento de Madrid mantiene con Zentro Basket Madrid, club deportivo responsable de las dos escuelas deportivas de baloncesto del distrito de Tetuán.
El distrito toma el relevo
El Torneo Internacional de Navidad de Baloncesto fue una competición amistosa internacional de baloncesto masculino organizada por la FIBA (Federación Internacional de Baloncesto) entre los años 1966 y 2004. Tenía lugar en la antigua Ciudad Deportiva del Real Madrid, ubicada entonces en el barrio de la Paz, en los límites geográficos con el distrito de Tetuán al norte.
Con este encuentro, la Junta Municipal de Tetuán pretende tomar el relevo y consolidar este certamen en un polideportivo que lleva el nombre de una de las más prestigiosas personalidades del baloncesto internacional. Jugador del Club Baloncesto Estudiantes y del Real Madrid, Antonio Díaz Miguel llegó a ser internacional con la selección de baloncesto de España en diversas ocasiones. Ya como seleccionador nacional, dirigió al equipo que logró la medalla de plata en baloncesto en los Juegos Olímpicos de Los Ángeles de 1984, el mayor logro español en este deporte hasta esa fecha. /
The inhabitants of the district of Tetuán in Madrid will this Wednesday fulfill their Christmas traditions with a grand finale. The final of the Christmas Basketball Tournament will be held at the Plaza de los Mártires roundabout.
The neighborhood’s passion for basketball is no secret and for the last 25 years, locals have come together every Christmas to compete in the renowned Basketball Tournament. Despite its longstanding tradition, this year’s tournament has seen more participation from both players and spectators than ever before, with 12 teams registered and an incredibly passionate audience paon the sidelines throughout the competition.
The grand finale is expected to be a real highlight of the season, with the two finalist teams determined by the first round of matches held earlier in the month. While last year’s champion will be defending their title, the other team is sure to put up a tough fight, making this final match a highly anticipated affair.
The match will begin at 7 pm, and spectators are advised to arrive early. Not only will they be able to catch the final moments of the Tournament, there will be plenty of other attractions around the area, including live music, food stands, and competitions.
The time-honoured Tournament has been enjoyed by the community of Tetuán for many years and offers a unique opportunity for the locals to come together and celebrate the festive season. Therefore, it is no surprise that the grand finale has been met with such enthusiasm this year.
