El CD Tenerife se presentó en Pasarón con novedades en el once inicial en relación al último encuentro de liga. La segunda eliminatoria de la Copa SM el Rey empezó con un traspié para el conjunto blanquiazul , que vio como se adelantaba el Pontevedra CF tras rebotar la pelota en el cuerpo de un defensor visitante para cambiar su trayectoria en el primer minuto de juego. (1-0).
Una nueva rápida acción por parte de los locales ampliaría la distancia en el marcador a los quince minutos (2-0, 15’). Los jugadores de Luis Miguel Ramis trataron de reaccionar a los dos goles de desventaja. Lo intentaron antes del descanso Borja Garcés, de cabeza (29’), y Samuel Shashoua (43’) pero sin concretar. Al descanso se llegaría con el reseñado 2-0 para los gallegos.
El técnico blanquiazul decidió realizar varios cambios tras el descanso, lográndose ver una mejor versión de los tinerfeñistas nada más comenzar la segunda mitad. Iván Romero peinó el esférico hasta en dos ocasiones, rozando el tanto en ambas acciones (59’ y 62’).
Mismo protagonista apenas un minuto más tarde. La pelota circuló de una banda a otra por parte de los blanquiazules, hasta que Mo Dauda encontró al segundo palo a Iván Romero (2-1, 62’).
El empate estaba cada vez más cerca, y pudo conseguirse por medio del atacante ghanés del CD Tenerife. Solo la providencial intervención del guardameta local con el pie pudo evitarlo (76’).
El marcador no se movió más pese a los constantes intentos tinerfeñistas por nivelar el marcador adverso. La plantilla de Luis Miguel Ramis comenzará este mismo miércoles el periodo de descanso invernal hasta el próximo 30/12.

The defeat of the CD Tenerife at the hands of Real Zaragoza in the first round of the Copa del Rey was a crushing blow for the fans of this historic Spanish club. Having been relegated to the second tier of the LaLiga Santander, the fans were hoping for the team to make a strong start to this season and re-ignite their own passion for the game.
Unfortunately, their hopes were soon dashed as Real Zaragoza ran out as 2-1 winners on the night. CD Tenerife had a briefly threatened to stage a late comeback when Oscar Hernandez scored from the penalty spot in the 89th minute, but the drama was over too soon as the visitors held on until the final whistle.
After the game, CD Tenerife manager Jose Luis Marti was understandably reflective: “The result was fair; it was a very even match with both teams having their opportunities. In the end, Real Zaragoza have shown themselves to be the better team, and we wish them luck in their future matches”.
Now, the attention will shift back to the league, where CD Tenerife are currently languishing in mid-table after a shaky start to the season. It will come down to the next few weeks for the team to recover the spirits of their supporters, and try to make amends for their premature exit from the Copa del Rey.
